Anti-spam measures?

Postby Jorzi » 20 Jan 2011, 15:42

As some of you may have noticed, the forum has recently been subject to a wave of spammers.
I think some extra measures might be needed to prevent this, like having us moderators review the posts of users posting the first time, for example.

Anyone know how to do it? I had a look at the admin control panel, but I dont really feel like messing with the settings since I have very little knowledge about forum administration

What exactly did you do? Apparently we are still getting lots of spammers...

hmm it looks like what I did was only a partial fix. What I did was to set the "newly registered users" group to use the permissions that only allow posts that we let through. However it seems that new users don't go into that group as of right now. I'll see why not and try and fix it.

EDIT: I think I fixed it however new users might not be able to post at all now I just need to be able to test it.

EDIT2: Yes it works. New users that post will cause a ? mark to appear next to the forum on the right, indicating a post waiting to be let in.

Much better, now I can just go to the moderator control panel and disapprove all the new posts simultaneously :P

Excellent :) The spam seems to have stopped, or at least the frequency has become much lower.
