Ok :P
For normal people who don't do subsurf modeling it propably looks perfectly fine, I'm just sensitive to that kind of stuff..
Does your hi-poly geometry by chance look like this?

besides, returning to the low poly model, should the barrel and tubes on sides be brighter? and I think overall diffuse texture should be brighter but it'll be a final touches on texture.

well the whole texture is much darker than my ao maps, but it also has more than just ao, so making it too bright would wash away all the edge highlights.
I think it simply needs a slightly different texturing workflow and leaving the brightness correction until the final result.
